India emphasizes a balanced, mutually beneficial trade relationship with the US as negotiations for a bilateral trade agreement continue, amid concerns that U.S. tariffs on Russian oil could affect bilateral ties and global energy markets. With U.S.-India trade at about $240 billion and aims to reach $500 billion, New Delhi says it will protect its trade interests and work with industry stakeholders, noting the new U.S. sanctions legislation could delay a final agreement.
